Battery Incidents Under Scrutiny

Lakshmi Srinivasan, Principal Team Lead Energy Storage at EPRI, gave a presentation at the TWAICE Vision Summit 2024 titled "Battery incidents under scrutiny: a closer look at the causes of energy storage system failures and fires"

Lakshmi underlined that the majority of BESS failures occur in the first year of operation.

The latest studies are identifying the causes of safety failures more and more precisely and in this regard it is essential to encourage cooperation between the various industry operators, a Lakshmi Srinivasan suggested: "Battery safety is not a place to compete on, it's a place to collaborate on".
